PHOTOGRAPHY VI: ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY

Advanced studio practices in developing and refining each student's personal expression through portfolio development. Intensive application of traditional and new technologies in the medium of photography including large format camera systems and advanced darkroom techniques, collaborative projects, as well as workshops focusing on professional website development and honing critical writing skills. Research on historical and contemporary artists in the field and group-based discussions on assigned readings are an integral component to this course. Students will become conversant in critically analyzing image-based works in a broad contemporary context.

Collaborative Publication

This assignment utilized skills acquired throughout the photography course offerings such as scanning technologies, critical writing, image layout, and color theory. For the Spring 2021 class 10 students collaborated on a 12 page publication that used photographic prompts to create Polaroids, which were then scanned and combined with text to address contemporary expectations surrounding what "pretty" photography should look like.
